A Scare For All of Us

Theo at the hospital

Just a few days after he turned one, Theo came down with a high fever of 39.8 degrees. We gave him Paracetamol and Ibuprofen but neither helped and his fever remained to the high level after two hours of taking medication. Being a parent, I used my judgement and believed it would have passed, but it didn’t. We weren’t sure what to do except to send him to a doctor and hopefully they would provide some clarify whether this is flu, or any thing else.

They gave us more Paracetamol and Ibuprofen, but those didn’t help. My wife and I thought we should wait it out and see and only act if his fever breaks above 40 degrees. We constantly monitor his temperature every 30 minutes and kept a record of it. On the 2nd night of his fever, his temperature reached 41 degrees and we immediately sent him to the hospital seeking for help (only have visited their out-patient dept. earlier that morning).

There was nothing we could do, they took his blood for various tests, and obviously it was a roller-coaster time for us to try and keep Theo calm and comfortable, while looking for answers.

Only on the 4th day, his fever came down and we realised it’s just Roseola Infantum, something we have not heard of previously.
